Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood in on the city's north side, less than 15 minutes from the downtown Loop via Lake Shore Drive. Adjacent to Lake Michigan, Uptown is bordered by Lincoln Square to the West, Edgewater to the north, and Lakeview to the south. And like these areas, Uptown offers residents multiple housing choices in a beautiful setting.
Housing in the Uptown neighborhood historically consisted of mansions, two-, three-, four-, and six-flat buildings, and large apartment buildings. Like many of Chicago's neighborhoods, Uptown has gone through its ups and downs. In the past decade Uptown has witnessed an unprecedented upswing as the neighborhood's significant housing stock has been restored and, more often than not, converted to condos. Two bedroom condos tend to price upward of $300k while single family homes on large lots can easily exceed seven figures.
With more than ten schools in the neighborhood, families don't have to look far to find education options for their children. Choices include public, private, parochial schools, and magnet schools. The presence of several community colleges lends a vibrant air to this up and coming neighborhood. Commuters have easy access to downtown via CTA Red Line stops at Lawrence, Wilson, and Irving Park Road.
Uptown's boundaries are the Lake on the east, Foster to the north, Irving Park Road to the south, and Ashland to the west. Primary arteries include Broadway, Clark, Wilson, and Lawrence.
